Medical program
1. PREMEDICAL PROGRAM
The Premedical Program consists of four fifteen-week semesters, which seek to address the missing elements to those who have only completed 12 years of primary and high school OR those with less than 90 college credit hours. It is an introduction to the world of medicine and provides the perquisites which build the base which is needed to be successfully accepted into the MD Program. Adding to this, it builds each student to adapt to critical thinking. It offers undergraduate sciences and laboratories, as well as post high school level of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Calculus. After building the foundation of the students in three consecutive semesters, the final semester the framework comprising the introductory courses in the Basic Sciences is added.
Students must attain a 'C' average to maintain satisfactory Academic progress. To be eligible for promotion into the Basic Sciences, a student must successfully complete the Fourth Premedical Semester with at least 3.0 GPA.
2. M.D. PROGRAM
Similar to the Pre Medical Program one has to rigorously apply themselves to the Basic Science Program as this is the perquisite for Clinical Knowledge. The Basic Science curriculum of the MD Program is eligible to those who would have completed 90 credit hours of premedical and is taught in the classrooms of WUB. Basic Science gives students the tools build a successful knowledge and skill base to successfully progress through the clinical phase of medical education.
The Faculty dedicated this program would have experience in the United States Medical Licensing Examination and would have shown enthusiasm on educating budding Medical Doctors. The MD Program duration for four years consists of Basic Science and Clinical Rotations.
Basic Sciences consists of five semesters and it concentrates on the core courses on would need to successfully pass USMLE and to become a Medical Doctor. Students are taught Anatomy, Histology and Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Immunology, Pathology and Pharmacology. The final phase or 5th Semester of the Basic Science education involves preparation for the first part of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
After successfully completing Basic Science, students' progress to Clinical Rotations which are currently held in the United States of America, India, and Nepal. All Clinical Rotation sites are in teaching hospitals and students are evaluated by a proctor and are expected to conduct themselves ethically to not breach codes of the hospital nor patient-doctor relationship.

4. CLINICAL SCIENCE PROGRAM
The Clerkship Coordinator facilitates the placement of students affiliated with teaching hospitals in USA, Nepal and India. All of the hospitals in the WUB network in on the process, developing memorandum of understanding and expected to have a one or more clerkship coordinator and faculty members charged with teaching, supervising and otherwise facilitating the clinical experience for WUB students.
During the next two (2) years, students experience clerkships focused on clinical medical sciences for 74-80 weeks. Clerkships consist of Clinical Core Rotations and Clinical Elective Rotations at an affiliated hospital.
Obtaining a United States Visa for the Clinical Rotation solely depends on the student. WUB will assist in informing students about the various documents required while applying for the US Visa. Students are also encouraged to apply for their United States Visa from the country of their origin.

We also encourage our students to be interested in Research Activities as it is a new light of development in the field of Medical Sciences and we believe that it is the pathway to widen the way of thinking among the students' aiming for a holistic approach in the care of sufferers and diseased.
The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is an agency that validates the education of all Foreign Medical Graduates and issues certification. The ECFMG certificate is required to enter residency and to obtain licensure. To obtain this certificate, a student must have a valid Medical School Diploma and he/she needs to pass USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 (CK and CS).
The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is a universal placement service, which significantly optimizes the chances of getting a residency position. Residency programs begin July 1st of each year. In order to be eligible, students are required to present the following documents by May 31st:
o Passing scores on USMLE Step 1
o Passing scores on USMLE Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS
o Washington University of Barbados's graduate degree
o An ECFMG Certificate. (Obtained after passing USMLE steps I, II CK and II CS)
**It's not the responsibility of WUB School of Medicine to obtain students' US Visa and is solely dependent on U.S. Department of State-Bureau of Consular Services. Nonetheless WUB will still assist students' in obtaining appropriate documents and information/s regarding US visa application procedure and information.

Accommodation
The University is proud to be among only few medical schools in the Caribbean offering student accommodations. The accommodations are located at the campus. All accommodations have 3-4 furnished beds featuring study desks, fans and chairs.
Recreation
Students will find activities to relax their minds after studying and these activities are as follows:

We want WUB code of conduct to be followed even though it is in playing field or in the school trips. Any misconduct during these activities will be taken as a breach in disciplinary code of conduct and dealt accordingly.
Clinical Environment
From inception; we encourage students to volunteer their time in clinical settings on the island. Once an interest is made from the list of Non-Governmental Organizations and Doctor Offices, WUB encourages students to gain experience to implement the theory taught. Adding to this, each student must be First Aid Certified and this would be done with the Heart and Stroke Foundation where students will learn Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the basic first aid techniques that can be life-saving. SGA will act along with students to be involved and coordinate these programs.
To make the transition smooth into WUB encourages the SGA to participate in welcoming new students, showing them around on the island, and giving them tips on how to cope on this new venture.
To transition students into this new environment a number of activities are offered to have a home away from home. You are to get acquainted with your surroundings therefore the Student Government Association Welcoming Committee will engage in an orientation week whereas you have activities planned that are supported by the Board of Directors. This week will include a meet and greet of other students and their cultures, tour around Barbados, welcome by service providers such as telephone, banking, supermarkets and Law enforcement.
Student Government Association
SGA is an organization fully modulated by students here at WUB. It's an organization that will look upon the affairs of the students and try to be effective immediately by collaborating with the Administration of the University.
SGA Vision: SGA is for a purpose, to be a part of the University, to find out what is it that gives the students of WUB a determination and to help the students in regard of their education as well as social life. SGA will work for the opportunities to grid with other students across the globe, to build integrity among various organizations, to plan efficient events, and to make students come under a single Umbrella of WUB. SGA will stride the best to bring this University to its greatest heights.
Clinical Research Society
At WUB it is encouraged that student be involved in clinical research as this adds to their profile. Being a CRS member gives you the extra edge you need to succeed. They are committed to giving every person involved in medical research, including students, the means to reach their goals by offering a set of valuable membership benefits. They strongly believe it's the best way to not only serve your needs, but also to advance and improve people's lives through better scientific research.
Student Counselling
The Student Counsellor is located on the administrative block, and appointments can be made via email or through the Administration Office. The qualified advisor provides counselling service to students and members of their families for problems related to studying or concentrating, test-taking, emotional difficulties, complications of physical illness, or difficulties with spouse, parents, or friends, and is strictly confidential.
Accessing the World Wide Web at WUB
Students can access to the internet via their cell phones, laptops, IPad or tables via Wi-Fi that is provided throughout the school. Adding to this they're computers which are located in the study area. Using the computers at WUB is restricted to any websites that can be damaging to the school but grant students to browse the internet at their leisure responsibly.
Parental Notifications
End of every semester, email will be sent to students' parent regarding their character and academic performance if it is deemed to do so by the University irrespective of the privacy commitment.
Library Services
The Library is equipped with journals and medical books to aid the students in study materials. Being a new aged University, many materials can be accessed via the internet as the school would have access to these online libraries.
Textbooks
WUB advises its students to have a set of academic books along with them although our library consists of all the books that is required by students. Students can buy the new edition of medical textbooks from online books store and get it delivered to the island when travelling from their motherland.
Cafeteria
WUB provides a cafeteria to serve the students and faculty. In this, meal is served three times daily (times). In the event of any sickness kindly alert the Administration Department, within 24 hours.
Laboratory
The prodigious laboratory hall with its latest apparatus is a centre for Inquisitive minds. WUB keeps the prodigious laboratory hall filled with latest apparatus for practical Learning.
WUB provide each and every requirement such as Ultra-modern classroom with advanced technology based learning system, patient examination room, well-furnished room to stay, and computer station and internet access. It also keeps extracurricular activities so that students can engage themselves to their free time. There are arrangements of Basketball court, Soccer field, Cricket Grounds and other outdoor and indoor activity. WUB also offers feature gym and jogging centre along with its wide area of Sports and recreation for students' participation.
Administration and Academic Department
Academic Departments and Programs
The Dean establishes and closes if necessary, Academic Departments and programs to meet the needs of the Medical School. The Dean appoints the Department Chair, or Co-Chairs, to lead each department wherein the Departmental Chairs report to the Dean.
Department of Pre Medical Sciences
The Chair of the Pre Medical Sciences reports to the Dean. This Department is responsible for the content related to Pre Medical Sciences within the Medical School curriculum. The Department Chair and faculty will work with the Dean on addressing issues within the Department and developing Educational curriculums and handbooks.
Department of Basic Sciences
The Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences reports to the Dean. This Department is responsible for the content related to the instruction of the basic sciences within the Medical School curriculum. The Chair and faculty work collaboratively with the Dean and other Departmental Chairs on the development of educational curriculum and delivery specific to the Basic Sciences. It is intended that the Basic Sciences are integrated throughout all four years of the Medical School curriculum. Faculty employed by the Medical School in the Department of Basic Sciences have additional responsibilities for scholarly activities and community service.
Department of Medical Education
The Chair of the Department of Medical Education reports to the Dean. This Department is responsible for consultation and training of faculty to advance learning across the continuum of Medical Education to strengthen educational skills for classroom, small group and clinical teaching. Training responsibilities include contributing to faculty development for instructional design, curriculum development, evaluation and measurement, and the training of residents and Medical Students to develop basic skills as educators.
The faculty at the Department of Medical Education is responsible for overseeing the students' requirements for mentored teaching activities. Faculty employed by the Medical School in the Department of Medical Education has additional responsibilities for scholarly activities and community service.
Clinical Departments
The Chairs of the Clinical Departments report to the Clinical Dean. Clinical Department Chairs not employed by the Medical School report to the Clinical Dean with regard to their educational and academic roles and responsibilities at the Medical School. Faculty employed by the Medical School in the Clinical Departments has additional responsibilities for Clinical Services, scholarly activities, and community service.
Department Chairs
The overall responsibility of the Department Chair is to provide continuing oversight of Departmental Activities, leading the Department to a position of academic and professional eminence while furthering the mission and goals of the Medical School.
